Tree Removal FAQs
Who owns the land at Northwoods?
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) owns the land, and WFR, Inc. is the Master Lessee.
Can I remove a tree on my cabin site?
Tree removal requires prior DNR review and approval. DNR conducts evaluations three times a year (Spring, Summer and, Fall), or as needed if the tree is an immediate threat.
How do I request a tree removal?

Complete the "Tree Removal Request Form."
What happens after DNR evaluates a tree(s)?
DNR will send a timber valuation letter to WFR, Inc., who will then notify you with the trees merchantable value.​
Do I have to pay for trees to be removed?
Yes, the trees at Northwoods are evaluated by DNR for their value and invoiced by WFR to individual cabin owners. However, this does not include tree removal. Cabin owners are responsible for arranging and covering the cost of tree removal.
What can I do once my tree(s) are approved for removal?
After payment for the timber value is made to WFR, Inc., you can have the trees removed. Checks can be made to:

What can I do with the removed tree(s)?
Trees may only be used for firewood. Commercial sale of timber is prohibited.
Is insurance requierd for tree removal?
Yes, adequate insurance is required for any damage or accidents. The removal company must provide a current certificate of insurance, naming WFR, Inc. and DNR as 'additional insured.' Certificate of Insurance from removal company must be sent to jennifer@waterfrontrecreation.com prior to removal. Insurance Requirements can be viewed here.

Please note, cabin owners are not limited to the providers listed above. Any provider must be licensed and submit proof of adequate insurance to WFR prior to removal.
What if I notice a dangerous tree between DNR evaluations?
Submit a tree removal request form. For dangerous trees, check the box indicating it is a dangerous tree and upload a photo of the tree. This will allow us to arrange an interim evaluation with DNR.
Who is responsible for damage or accidents during tree removal?
Sub-lessees are responsible for ensuring adequate insurance coverage; DNR is held harmless from any claims related to tree removal.
How often are tree valuations updated?
Tree valuations are updated every six months. If the tree is not removed witin six months, the valuation will be reassessed, and any changes will be billed to the sub-lessee.
